  • +43 Vote -1 Vote +1 Statistical Machine Translation Basics

    by Deepak P

Machine translation refers to automatically (programmatically) translating text from one language to another. Given a sentence in English to be translated to Malayalam, the first thing that would come to mind would be to tag the various words in the source sentence as verb, adjective, adverb etc, and then creating something like a parse tree. But, statistical machine translation is a piece of magic that does not do any of these. Given some sentences in English and their corresponding Malayalam translations, it builds a probabilistic model that would enable translating new English sentences. To make it clearer, the technique does not know that "Kerala" is a noun, "belong" is a verb, and for that matter anything about the usage of words in the text. This talk would introduce the fundamentals of this technique starting from the very basics (assuming no background knowledge) using examples and the target is to equip the attendee with enough knowledge to build a very small working statistical machine translation system himself/herself. Statistical Machine Translation is by far the most widely used translation technique, and is the basis of state-of-the-art systems like Google Translate.

  • +13 Vote -1 Vote +1 TRANZ-Today we redefine the way mobile files get shared!

    by @innoz

With all the new socionet tools available, we strongly believe that one’s mobile contact book is still the most active and relevant social network and reinforcing this belief we developed TRANZ-a mobile application that lets you share music, pictures, videos & docs with your phone book contacts, i.e:- file sharing on a closed group social network. Mobile phones are no more just a simple device to call your friends up. It’s your PC, camera, mp3 player and a lot more. It actually brings the entire world to your pocket. Ok so you use social networking, microblogging, emailing, IM chats and other such apps and you still feel something missing!! Think about an experience where you take pictures of your vacation and import it into an app that lets you share your files with your family and friends instantly. No more transferring files to your PC and then share them with others. Mobile has turned into a PC – well Tranz has just completed the definition. TRANZ was officially lauched on Feb.13th 2010 in India and had a demopit at Headstart 2010. more info at http://www.gotranz.com/
